Notes: Rowland Hill (1772-1842), first Viscount Hill. In May 1812 he stormed the forts of Almaraz, cutting off communication between the French armies on the north and south sides of the River Tagus, thus earning the title Lord Hill of Almaraz. He was the nephew of Rowland Hill (1795-1879), inventor of the Penny Black postage.
