Rev: view of Maurice's monument in St.Thomas's church, Strasbourg
Notes: Maurice de Saxe (1696-1750), was an illegitimate son of August the Strong, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony (some sources say August lived up to his name by fathering as amany as 354 children). Maurice fought in many armies throughout the turbulent times of continental Europe in the early part of the 18th century, becoming a French citizen in 1746. The impressive church monument to Maurice is by Jean-Baptiste Pigalle. |
