| Ref: 1848 | France, Louvre Museum, Salle d'Appollon 1804, bronze medal by Andrieu
Rev: an interior view of the Louvre museum, looking towards the Belvedere Appollo statue through an arch, SALLE D'APPOLLON above, and a bust of Napoleon above on a seashell, in exergue MUSÉE NAPOLÉON
References: Bramsen 370 Notes: The Louvre was renamed the Napoleon Museum in recognition of the fact that it now housed artworks looted by Napoleonic armies from around Europe. The Appollo Belvedere had been taken from the Vatican, where it had been placed by Pope Julius II at the start of the sixteenth century, following its discovery at Anzio towards the end of the fifteenth century.
