Obv: bust left of Louis XIV, titles around Rev: winged Victory stands on a large trophy of sterns of stranded ships with Dutch and English flags, holding a wreath and palm branch in either hand, MERSA. ET. FVGATA. ANGLORVM. ET BATAV CLASSE around (the English and Dutch fleets put to flight), in exergue AD ORAS ANGLIAE MDC XC (Near the shores of England 1690)
Condition: About extremely fine; Diameter: 41mm References: MI i 709/121; E 325; Divo 229 Notes: this naval action opposed the French fleet to a combined Anglo-Dutch fleet. The French had 78 warships, the Protestant fleet had 56. After eight hours of combat the Anglo-Dutch fleet withdrew allowing the French to claim victory (although they did not pursue the retreating fleet). The Dutch lost six ships and the English lost two.
