Sir Walter Scott, fiftieth year 1821, bronze medal by T Webb and B R Faulkner after J Mudie

 

Obv: bare head of Scott right, name around

Rev: various items symbolic of Scotland lie around an old tree, including a claymore, a harp, Highland targe shield and thistle, date 1821 below

 

Condition: extremely fine; Diameter: 40mm

Notes: Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832), Scottish romantic novelist and poet. His most famous works are probably Waverley and Rob Roy. In later years he struggled to repay debts of £130,000, and this may have hastened his demise.
