Rev: female standing leaning on column, holds banner with legend TO GREAT MEN, in exergue year in Roman numerals

Edge: impressed BARDORUM CITHARAS PATRIO QUI REDDIDIT ISTRO (He who restored the songs of the Bards to their native land)

 

Condition: Good very fine; Diameter: 62mm

Notes: Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832), Scottish romantic novelist and poet. His most famous works are probably Waverley and Rob Roy. In later years he struggled to repay debts of £130,000, and this may have hastened his demise. This medal was part of a series to 'Great Men' published by S Parker.
