| Ref: 2181 | France, "Aux Armes", silver medal by Pierre-Alexandre Morlon, awarded in 1916 to Captain Maurice Orgias, rare as a named award
Obv: Gallia in a Gaulish helmet advances with drawn sword and shield Rev: an oak tree and a tablet engraved AU CAPITAINE MAURICE ORGIAS, on banners below the date 1er FÉVRIER 1916, engraved around border MATINÉE DES CROIX DE GUERRE, OFFERTE PAR "LE JOURNAL" (Croix de Guerre morning [or matinée?] offered by Le Journal)
Condition: Very fine, small edge bruise at 11 o'clock on reverse; Diameter: 64mm References: CGMP 3/269H, Forrer VIII/78 Notes: Maurice Orgias survived the Great War and co-wrote at least two legal books after the war, one of which looked at legal interpretations of the Treaty of Versailles. Le Journal was a newspaper, and whilst I'm not entirely clear as to what the 'Matinée des Croix de Guerre' entailed, I assume that Captain Orgias had been awarded this medal (i.e.the Croix de Guerre).
