Notes: Joan of Arc (c.1412-1431). When she was about 12 the Archangel Michael and two other saints appeared to Joan and implored her to drive the English from France. This was at the time of the Hundred Years War when much of France was under English control. She led royalist French forces with some success but was captured and burnt at the stake aged about 19. The accomplished medallist Daniel Dupuis had the misfortune to be murdered in his sleep by his deranged wife.
