Rev: The Prince as a Roman soldier grasps the hand of the Netherlands, to defend the Dutch state

 

 

Condition: almost extremely fine; Diameter: 54mm

Notes: this commemorates the nomination of William IV as stadtholder of the United Provinces. The month beforehand France had invaded Flanders, thereby putting the country at risk. It was the first time the position was created as a hereditary one.
